The Australasian Orthodontic Journal (AOJ) is the official scientific publication of the Australian Society of Orthodontists. First published in 1967, the aim of the AOJ is to publish original, clinically relevant and evidence-based research on topics such as craniofacial development and growth, orthodontic treatment and care, and industry advancements and trends.

The AOJ is published in accordance with independent, unbiased, and double-blinded peer-review principles.


The Australian Society of Orthodontists helps patients understand their options for orthodontic treatment and provides information about dealing with the most qualified practitioners providing orthodontic care.

The Journal welcomes articles that contribute to orthodontic knowledge from all sources. Material is accepted for publication on the understanding that it has not been submitted or published, in any format, elsewhere. All articles are peer reviewed and the Editor's decision about which manuscripts are accepted for publication is final.

All authors of manuscripts accepted for publication must sign the Copyright Release Form and supply a Conflict of Interest Statement. Papers can be submitted online

The Australasian Orthodontic Journal, the scientific publication of the Australian Society of Orthodontists Inc., publishes high-quality articles that contribute to orthodontic knowledge from all sources. This peer-reviewed journal is published twice a year, in May and November.

The 2021 annual subscription rate for non-member individual and institutional subscribers is AU$225.00 (+ GST for Australian subscribers), including postage and handling. Subscribers also have free 12 month online access to all articles published from 1967 to the present.

Produced by the Australian Society of Orthodontists and with a circulation of more than 90% of the practicing Orthodontists, newly graduated orthodontists and all post graduate orthodontic students in Australia, the AOJ is Australia’s leading peer-reviewed orthodontic journal.

Containing high-quality articles that contribute to orthodontic knowledge from all sources, the AOJ is published bi-annually (Calendar year – May and November) and is hard-copy posted to all ASO members and over 100 leading Dental Schools, Universities and Research Libraries worldwide.

The ASO has approximately 600 members across the country and represents around 90% of all registered specialist orthodontists in Australia.
