Isolation, identification, and pathogenicity of Steinernema carpocapsae and its bacterial symbiont in Cauca-Colombia

Heterorhabditis bacteriophora (López-Núñez et al., 2007, 2008; Melo et al., 2009). The municipality of Toribío, in the Department of Cauca, Colombia, is a place where EPNs had never been registered before. It is characterized by small-scale family and community agriculture with varied subsistence and pasture crops. The aim of this study was to isolate and identify EPNs and their bacterial symbiont from crops and natural habitats at this municipality for later in vitro evaluation of susceptibility of two

Molecular identification of Bursaphelenchus cocophilus associated to oil palm (Elaeis guineensis) crops in Tibu (North Santander, Colombia)

The oil palm industry is one of the most important in the Colombian agricultural sector. Currently, Colombia is the fourth producer of palm oil and the first in Latin America, with more than 535,000 hectares planted in 112 towns of 20 states, placing it as one of the main agricultural lines of the country (Fedepalma, 2018; Sistema de información estadística del sector palmero-SISPA, 2019). One of the most important aspects of Colombian palm production is related to phytopathological problems

Morpho-molecular characterization of Colombian and Brazilian populations of Rotylenchulus associated with Musa spp

Colombia is the fourth largest global producer of plantain (Musa spp.) after Uganda, Cameroon, and Ghana, with a production of 3,575,706 t in 2017. Recently, the production of plantain has increased in Colombia by 11% since 2012 with a current yield of 8.1 t ha−1 (FAO, 2018). Regional variation in yield of both banana and plantain exists, ranging from 35.9 t ha−1 yr−1 (Tolima municipality) to 107.8 t ha−1 yr−1 (Valle del Cauca) and from 274.2 t ha−1 yr−1 (Meta) to 542.1 t ha−1 yr−1 (Arauca) for

level in andisols and vertisols soils with high contents of Ca, P, Mn and reduced organic matter (Speijer and Ssango, 1999; Karakas, 2007; Araya et al., 2011). Although Helicotylenchus has been reported in the banana and plantain crops of Colombia and Brazil, morphological, morphometric, and molecular data are scarce for these geographical regions (Zuñiga et al., 1979; Villegas, 1989; Guzmán-Piedrahita and Cataño-Zapata, 2004; Torrado-Jaime and Castaño-Zapata, 2009). In order to contribute to the
