An Analysis of the 'Failed States Index' by Partial Order Methodology

averaging method. Here an alternative is suggested which avoids this averaging and which is derived from simple elements of the theory of partially ordered sets (posets). The central concept in partial order is the ‘concept of comparison’ and the most general outcome is a web of relations between objects according to their indicator values, respecting the ranking aim.   As an example the ‘Failed State Index’ (FSI), annually prepared by the Fund of Peace is selected. The FSI

THE CHOICE OF NORMALIZATION METHOD AND RANKINGS OF THE SET OF OBJECTS BASED ON COMPOSITE INDICATOR VALUES

The choice of the normalization method is one of the steps for constructing a composite indicator for metric data (see, e.g. Nardo et al., 2008, pp. 19-21). Normalization methods lead to different rankings of the set of objects based on composite indicator values. In the article 18 normalization methods and 5 aggregation measures (composite indicators) were taken into account. In the first step the groups of normalization methods, leading to identical rankings of the set of objects, were

Small area estimates of the low work intensity indicator at voivodeship level in Poland

The EU Statistics on Income and Living Conditions (EU-SILC) has provided annual esti mates of the number of labour market indicators for EU countries since 2003, with an almost exclusive focus on national rates. However, it is impossible to obtain reliable direct estimates of labour market statistics at low levels based on the EU-SILC survey. In such cases, model based small area estimation can be used. In this paper, the low work intensity indicator for the spatial domains in Poland between

Anhedonia but not passive floating is an indicator of depressive‑like behavior in two chronic stress paradigms

corticosterone in the blood and brain structures involved in stress‑response did not differ from control in both experiments. The absence of significant changes in corticosterone levels and passive floating may be indicative of the adaptation of animals to chronic stress. Anhedonia appears to be a more sensitive indicator of depressive‑like behavioral effects of chronic stress as compared to behavior in the forced swim or open field tests.

Detection of Lewis, P1, and some MNS blood group system antibodies by a solid phase assay

Some solid phase red cell adherence (SPRCA) assays are designed to detect IgG antibodies to red blood cell (RBC) antigens. These assays use anti-IgG-coated red cells as the indicator. It is reported that most antibodies to Lea, Leb, P1, M, and N fail to react by solid phase (SP), presumably because they are IgM antibodies. Those detected are assumed to be IgG. In one year, during routine testing using SPRCA to screen patients for intended RBC transfusion, 28 of 59 such examples were found

A latent class analysis on the usage of mobile phones among management students

’ answers to various indicator variables; for this reason, a proper selection of indicators is of great importance here. In this work, we propose a method of selecting the most useful variables for an LCA-based detection of group structures from within the examined data. We apply a greedy search algorithm, where during each phase the models are compared through an approximation to their Bayes factor. The method is applied in the process of selecting variables related to mobile phone usage which

Effects of pH changes of stock normal saline solution on 5 percent red cell suspension

The red cell suspension (RCS) is a universally used indicator system to demonstrate antigen and antibody reactions in vitro. Saline solutions that are used in its preparation are preferred to be fresh to avoid changes in pH that may affect the results. Thus, buffered saline such as phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) is the ideal diluent because its pH is maintained for a certain period. However, normal saline solution (NSS) is more commonly used because it is inexpensive and easy to make. pH

Standards for the assessment of salivary glands – an update

salivary gland parenchymal lesions at different stages of the disease. Pleomorphic adenomas are usually hypoechoic, well-defined and polycyclic in most cases. Warthin tumor usually presents as a hypoechoic, oval-shaped lesion with anechoic cystic spaces. Malignancies are characterized by blurred outlines, irregular shape, usually heterogeneous echogenicity and pathological neovascularization. The accompanying metastatic lesions are another indicator of malignancy, however, final diagnosis should be
